Highland Hospital is preparing its staff and volunteers for the upcoming flu season by offering flu shots to anyone who works there.
Highland set up an assembly line to vaccinate employees.
"We do know there will be a flu season. There's always something that comes through and there's always some people who are severely infected," said Highland Hospital Epidemiologist Dr. Mark Shelley. "As health care workers, there's even a higher responsibility because we know that even if we're not hit hard or if we have a case of the flu that barely slows us down, that still can be something that spreads to other people who are much less healthy than we are."
Dr. Shelley recommends that even if you don't think you need a flu shot to protect yourself from the flu, you should get it to protect those around you who may be older or more susceptible.
It is recommended that everyone six months of age and up get a flu vaccine.
