112 Complaints Eating Recalled Chobani Yogurt: FDA - Pentagon Post
A total of 112 people have filed complaints by Thursday to U.S. Food and Drug Administration after eating the recalled Chobani yogurt. All of them have fallen ill, said spokeswoman for the agency. The number was 89 on Monday.
On Thursday, after about a week of the first noticed case, privately-held Chobani recalled 91 varieties of its yogurt having product code 16-012. The expiry dates of the recalled products are between September 11 and October 7.
The company said it is removing the products from the shelves due to some claims of illness. However, spokeswoman Amy Juaristi said the mold called mucor circinelloides in the dairy may have caused spoilage like bloating and swelling in the yogurt. She added the tainted cups would be replaced from the products.
Chobani has also encouraged its customers to throw out the listed products even though it does not pose a health risk. The company is taking action due to multiple complaints by consumers in past one week.
Earlier this week stores in the greater Milwaukee area were still found by Public Investigators to be selling some of the recalled products even after consumers were assured of those been removed from the shelves. Now those have been removed.
A mom to a 13-year-old boy from Caledonia said her child experienced stomach cramps after eating the Chobani Champions tubes. Another mom said her teen daughter experienced something similar and vomiting. An old Texas woman complained about getting chills and low fever after eating the Chobani products.
In the meantime, if you got ill from eating the recalled Chobani yogurt, report it to the company (877) 847-6181 and/or the FDA at (800) FDA-1088 or (800) 332-1088.
