Cats may hold clues to an HIV vaccine - WWLP 22News
NEW YORK (NBC) - Scientists say the virus that causes AIDS in cats may hold clues to developing an HIV vaccine for humans.
Researchers at the University of Florida and University of California, San Francisco found a protein from the virus in felines triggered an immune response in the blood from people infected with HIV.
The virus in cats is different than what infects people, though resembles it enough to be able to be studied.
The science is a long way off from practical use in humans, but it's promising for a field that's been unsuccessful so far in developing an HIV vaccine.
