Rumored iPhone 5C Backing Colors Get Time in the Sun - PC Magazine
- August 24, 2013 08:17pm EST
It's been a slew of activity in the rumor circles this past week, with pictures of Apple's rumored new devices popping up in all sorts of places. We've already covered the bits about the rumored gold backing that might be joining the iPhone's more traditional, monochromatic lineup – at least, for the similarly rumored iPhone 5S that should be jumping into the public eye around September 10 or so.
But wait! There's more!
More colors, that is. Tanner Marsh of BestTechInfo posted a story earlier this week in which he's showing off a few of the alleged cases that might house Apple's rumored low-cost smartphone, the iPhone 5C (Five-Cheap? Nope! Five-Color.) The plastic phone — in contrast to the sleeker aluminum frame of its more expensive cousin — will allegedly come with at least five, multi-colored back assembly enclosures.
Marsh's video shows off the blue, red, yellow, green, and (normal) white variants. They're a bit closer to a neon than a more "standard" pigment that the color's name might imply, but it's unclear whether these are the set-in-stone, at-launch colors or whether potential iPhone 5C purchasers will be able to pick from other alternatives. Also, no standard black version of the iPhone 5C? Hrmph.
If you're more interested in an alleged sneak peak of the iPhone 5C in action, the French blog NoWhereElse posted a picture that's supposedly a whole mess of iPhone 5C smartphones hanging out at the Shanghai-based plant of one of Apple's suppliers, Pegatron. The picture's caption doesn't reveal all that much about the devices in question, unfortunately.
"The low-end iPhone 5C to be launched for Chinese consumers in September doesn't look much different than the Xiaomi Phone 2, right," reads the caption, as reported by Engadget's Richard Lai (the French site that originally found the image, first posted to the website Sina Weibo, appears to be down as of this article's writing).
While we've already seen a smattering of pictures of what the purported gold-backed iPhone 5S might look like, blogger and prolific iPhone rumor-chaser Sonny Dickson has allegedly gotten his hands on the rear housing "direct" from a source in "Apple's Asian supply chain." The pictures – if accurate – show off the champagne-like color of the gold backing for the iPhone 5S in more magnified, simple detail than previous shots we've seen. Check them out, unless you're keen to avoid any and all spoilers prior to Apple's September 10 event.
(If so, good luck!)
